Prayers for the family

15 Months. That's the length of time Don and I worked together at Dartco. But, that's all the time required to develop a true friendship that's lasted for 30 years.

The very first day I arrived, as the kid supervisor from Texas, Don took me under his wing and started teaching me. It was a pivotal time for Karen and I, being so far from home for the first times in our lives. I think Don saw this, and knew we needed support. He taught me everything from where to buy cheap hot dogs to how to find a good author to read. When we had to move from our apartment? Don was the first one there, with a truck. When I invited a few people to our apartment to play poker? Don was the first one to arrive. 21 years later, after we moved away, when I called Don (as we'd promised each other) to tell him I had a tee time at Pebble Beach? He made a flight reservation and came to play. That's the kind of person I knew Don McCuller to be: The kind who was true to his word.

He was a brilliant man. I don't know that we every broached a subject where Don didn't knew at least as much as I did, and usually more. No one I've ever met has read as many books. We shared a love for golf, for knowledge, and for life.

When we lived in Augusta, Don was as confirmed a bachelor as anyone could be. I think he was comfortable with that concept, more or less. So, I was a little more than surprised when he first told me about Marianne. She changed his life in ways he never imagined, and he was so much happier for it. What a blessing that these two special people found each other, and were able to enjoy so many years of life together.

You will be sorely missed, my dear friend. I will call on you often, especially for club advice if/when I ever make it to St. Andrews. If I do, I promise you: Your name will be called on the first tee.

God Bless you and all your family Marianne. May his loving mercy carry you on.

Marianne.. and Chris, you and your entire family are in my thoughts and prayers. Don was indeed a good man, and was admired by many. I recall when the two.of you married, when we lived as neighbors in Bricktown Place , North Augusta, SC. I worked with Don at Amoco Performance Products years ago. I since returned to work at Solvay Advanced Polymers, prior to Don's retirement.
The world would be a better place if there were more people like Don.
May comfort, and peace of The Holy Comforter be with you today and the days to come...
