The Michael Gannam family sends its most sincere condolences to Virginia and the Maxwell family. Marion Gannam and the Gannam family especially appreciated the care and concern shown her by Virginia and George in the last years of Marion's life. We know that George will be missed.

Reverend Maxwell and my father, Dr. Fred Adams were close friends and enjoyed playing golf and each other's company in Spartanburg and elsewhere over many years. I remember their good times together, watching them smile and laugh with my mother, Doris, and George's wife Virginia, at our home on Barberry Lane. I wish to thank Reverend Maxwell and his family for their contribution of joy and happiness, as well as spiritual guidance to my family. Most sincerely, Rob Adams Augusta, Ga

I attended Christ Church while growing up in Savannah. I can still hear Father Maxwell's rich voice fill as he delivered his powerful (and wonderfully concise) Sunday morning sermons. I have not been able to find another parish home with a rector who speaks to me through sermons the way he did.

Another memory I have is of him giving my friends and me "the look" above his spectacles when we were a bit too chatty in the balcony. And I will always remember the one very unfortunate incident involving some choking on Communion wine because my friend Mary Jane and I were trying too hard to keep from laughing at something.

He was a memorable and accomplished person. I will miss him dearly.

Our deep sympathy to Father Maxwell's family and all those who loved him. We've been gone from Christ Church for 25 years, but he still surfaces regularly in conversation, as we recall a word of wisdom George shared with one of us, or stories from his wonderful sermons. And, I often think about him when we Pass the Peace in church.

George Maxwell served us at Holy Comforter, Sumter SC for 9 years during which time my husband, Stanley DuBose served as Lay Reader, and our two sons served as acolytes under his tutelage. We as a family and the whole of our parish were better for his presence in our lives. May God bless him, and may God bless Virginia and their extended family.

George Maxwell was the Rector of my Parish, The Church of the Holy Comforter in Sumter, South Carolina which is my hometown. He performed my wedding ceremony in Sumter. He was my Rector at Christ Church in Savannah where I was a Parishioner. He was one of the most brilliant men I had the pleasure of knowing and hearing. Virginia Maxwell was one of my favorites in Savannah, as well. My sincere condolences to the family.

He has served the Lord well and Christ Church Episcopal is better for his presence in the lives of so many of the congregation. To God be the glory-rest in peace Father George.
