I worked with Dr. Engler as a new nurse starting in 1977 and many years after at St. Josephs. He treated everyone from housekeeping staff to CEO with the same honor and respect. He knew everyone at St. Josephs by name. He was a true gentleman and honestly I never saw him without a smile and a friendly hello, even during those middle of the night crazy emergencies in the operating room and recovery room, good memories . It was an honor to know him.

I knew Dr. Engler as a family friend when I was young and did a surgical elective at St. Joseph's for a month when I was at MCG. He was a close friend and surgical colleague of my father's back in the day. He always had a smile on his face and was very active whether at the hospital or competing at tennis or golf. Of course, I knew Gay, Doug, and Julie at ARC. My deepest condolences to the family. I know you are proud, as you should be.

Take comfort in knowing that those who have died, to God are as good as alive. A good name is better than good oil and the day of death is better than the day of birth.
