Cummings HEPHZIBAH, Ga. - John Cummings, 69, of Hephzibah, Ga., entered into rest on Sept. 25, 2016 at his residence. He retired from the Air Force National Guard in 1991 while working at SRS, where he retired in 2002. John was a faithful and dedicated servant at Thankful Baptist Church, as well as in the community. He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife, Patricia J. Cummings; son, Derek O. Cummings; daughter, Cesaley Cummings of Hephzibah, Ga.; mother, Eliza Cummings, Augusta, Ga.; sisters, Jessie Carr, Brooklyn, N.Y., Hattie Day, Columbia, S.C., and Geneatha (Tony) Williams, Walterboro, S.C.; extended family members, Diane Curry, North Augusta, S.C., Veronica Heyward, Beach Island, S.C., Barbara Bussey, North Augusta, S.C., Sandra Ollison, Augusta, Ga., and Angela Washington, North Augusta, S.C.; grandchildren and a host of family and friends. Services will be held on Friday, September 30, 2016, 11:00 a.m., at the Historic Thankful Baptist Church, 302 Walker St., Augusta, Ga., Reverend Christopher Waters officiating with Rev. Gregory Young Eulogist. Viewing will be Thursday, September 29th, from 4-7 p.m., C.A. Reid Sr. Memorial Funeral Home 542 Laney Walker Blvd., Augusta, Ga. Phone: 706-724-7594. (Ret. USAF)

Deacon John Cummings was my supervisor at the Historic Thankful Baptist Church, where I'm employed as secretary. I've worked for many great supervisors before, but Deacon Cummings were THE GREATEST! Thank you, Deacon Cummings, for blessing my life and career with your mentoring, guidance, counseling, instruction, direction, generosity, wisdom and Christian love. Rest in Heaven.

John picked up supplies for the church, from the business I work for. One of the nicest fellas I ever met. He always had a smile on his face. We were very sad to hear of his passing and and send our heart felt condolences to his family.
