He was a 1953 graduate of Langley-Bath-Clearwater High School and would talk to anyone who would listen about his enjoyment of baseball, track and especially football. Over the years, Mr. Usry served as a trustee, Sunday School teacher, Sunday School director and was an active and faithful member of Clearwater First Baptist Church where he served as deacon until his illness.
