George Alan Walz, age 89, of Yorkville, IL, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2016. He was born on January 15, 1927, in Abingdon, IL, the son of Irl R. and Vera (Dunlevy) Walz. George was united in marriage on April 27, 1948, to the former Evelyn K. Schmitz and they spent the next 67 happy years together until her passing on May 12, 2015. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle who will be deeply missed by his family and many friends. Mr. Walz was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Yorkville, IL, and a former member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and St. Raphael Catholic Church both in Naperville, IL. George was employed for many years as a superintendent by the Elmhurst Chicago Stone Company in Bolingbrook, IL, until his retirement. He was then employed by Harry Kuhn, Inc. in Yorkville, IL. George enjoyed farming; his passion was alfalfa. He loved reading about history and enjoyed spending time doing puzzles. He spent endless hours in his shop fabricating and repairing machinery and tools. George was a wonderful, caring man to everyone. He was devoted to his wife, Evelyn, and had an amazing faith. He is survived by his children: Wayne (C. Kathleen) Walz, of Manhattan, IL, Kathryn (Steven) Graves, of Downers Grove, IL, Marilyn Jordan, of Sandwich, IL, Alan (Susan) Walz, of Oswego, IL, Beverly (Richard) Olin, of Oswego, IL, and Donna (Scott) Makowsky, of Oswego, IL; his 13 grandchildren; his 17 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Stanley Walz, of Portage, WI, and Philip (Adele) Walz, of Portage, WI; his sister, Karen (William) Murphy, of Michigan; his sister-in-law, Mary Walz, of Somonauk, IL; and his many nieces and nephews that were very important; as well as many others he welcomed into the family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Irl and Vera Walz; his wife, Evelyn Walz; his infant son, Ronald Walz; his brothers, Roger and Irl Walz; and his son-in-law, Larry Jordan. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, on Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 406 Walnut St., Yorkville, IL, with Father Matthew Lamoureux M.I.C. officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Naperville, IL. Visitation will be begin with the praying of the Rosary at 3:30 PM and will continue until 8:00 PM, on Monday, August 29, 2016, at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Home, 1617 N. Bridge St., Yorkville, IL.
