We Remember the Officers
We remember the officers who changed our lives,
The men and woman who protected us day and night,
People who respect for their dedication to the cause,
For when faced with danger, they never even pause.

We remember the officers who always stood true,
Whatever the color of uniform, brown gray or blue,
With pride and integrity they say "To serve and protect",
For the giving of their life, we offer our respect.

We remember the officers who we never really knew,
Persons strong enough to answer the challenge are few,
With heavy hearts we mourn the officers in eternal rest,
There's more to these people than the badge on their chest.

You are not forgotten

My name is Alicia Cates I am a server at the Native New Yorker Restaurant that held the charity fund raiser for the foundation that has since been established in honor of this officer. I just wanted to thank the family for creating this foundation for children. I am grateful that the family has turned something so tragic into something so beautiful and beneficial for the community. His name and work will forever be remembered because of this act. So thank you again to those who have taken part in this selfless act of giving back.

Happy New Year to you and your family.

December 7, 2007

I found out about you when I was doing something silly. My name is Holly, and my boyfriend's name is Anthony. I googled Anthony and Holly and came up with you. Another odd thing is that my boyfriend, Anthony is an officer for the Orange County Sheriff's Department. It's strange how we are all connected. You and your family from now on will be in my prayers. I felt really compelled to write something because even though I did not know you, or know your family... it's like I do. I understand how they might feel, because I know how I would feel. I thank you for serving as a law enforcement officer. You guys are so important, and brave to do what you do. There is a special place in Heaven for you and please continue to watch over all of the other officers. To Anthony's family, you are in my prayers, and every time I pray that my Anthony comes home safely, I'll think of your Anthony, and pray for him too.

Tony, my love, it has been 23 weeks and 2 days since that horrible day when we lost you, and each passing day my heart aches for you. I love you so very much and miss you every moment of every day. Our lives forever changed on that horrible Monday. I swore for days that you would come home... that you would walk through that door and tell us it was all a bad mistake. I thank God every day for you, and I thank Him for your wonderful family as well. I am waiting for the day that I can see you again, when my heart will be whole once again. Until then, my heart belongs to you. Please know that we love you and will never forget how you enriched our lives. Thank you for making me a better person, babe. We will ensure that you are never forgotten. You are with me wherever I go because I carry you in my heart. I love you, Tony Holly.

To Jim, No one was closer to Tony than you. I hope God fills that hole in your heart, soul and life so that you can find a new normal. To Tony's mom and step-dad - Your abundance of love and guidance is obvious in the man you raised. To Tony's dad and step-mom - You too shaped Tony's life through your love and support. To his girlfriend Brandy - Although you only knew Tony for such a short time, you knew a truly wonderful man. Don't be afraid to love again. May God help to keep all of you from being filled with hate and anger and let you instead focus on all the good people in the world that are taking the time to write to you through this venue and help hold you all together so we can make sure there are more good people than bad in this world!

I pray that you and your family grow stronger every day. In times like this it is easy for one's faith to waiver, but please remember, if God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.

I thank you Anthony, from the bottom of my heart, for being brave, proud, strong, passionate and a true patriot.

My deepest sympathy for your loss. You and Anthony will be in my prayers.

To Officer Holly's Family,

Please know how terribly sorry we are for your senseless and tragic loss. May it provide some comfort to know that his memory will live on in many lives. I recently read an article about him and it stated the tattoo he had: "live, love, serve, die". That has been sent to soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, to school teachers who have told their students, to the CEO of an international company - to many, many people. We have been touched by his sacrifice in so many ways - please take some small comfort in that fact - he will NEVER be forgotten.

I had the great opportunity to know TONY, he was in my youth group as a High School Student at our church. Not only was he very bright, but what always impressed me about TONY was that he had a heart for the Lord and a heart for his friends, he was willing to do anything for his friends, he had such a tender heart. I'm so thankful that he had a personal relationship with the Lord. Tony always took advantage of life...he loved living.

Please know that I am thinking and praying for all of you everyday.

Officer Holly-
I did not have the pleasure of knowing you and for that I feel I've missed out but I was at the church for your service and then at the gravesite way in the back. I have several friends in LE and I felt it was my duty to be there to celebrate your life and what you have done for your country and community. You have no idea how many lives you have touched. You have definitely touched mine in more ways than one. Everytime I drive by the cemetery I look over and a tear comes to my eye, a lump in my throat knowing that you are there and the evil is behind bars. Justice will be served. I only hope faith, love and memories will bring your family and friends peace. Thank you for all you did and continue to do from up in the blue. RIP Anthony. You will be forever missed but NEVER NEVER forgotten.

Family of Anthony Holly:

Your tremendous loss has brought us closer together. It has made some of our greatest fears a reality. We all took the oath to protect and serve and we have done that to the greatest of our abilities. Despite our loss, we will continue to fight; however, we'll be fighting with one less brother at our side. Anthony may not be at our sides, be he will forever remain in our hearts. May your family find peace knowing that Anthony not only served his country and his community, he served the Lord.

Holly Family:

While I did not know Tony personally, I like many others, have been touched by this humble man's love for God, for serving others and for living his life with a joyous attitude. For some reason I was touched by the article in the paper that mentioned he loved to sing loudly and off-key. I have decided in his honor to always sing loudly and off-key! I am sure those in church next to me may not be so happy, but I am proud to say that I learned this from a hero and I am passing it on to keep his spirit alive. Thank you for raising a beautiful son who laid down his life in service to others. God has a special place in heaven for him. Jean Briese, wife of Phoenix Police Officer

In your quiet moments when the hurt is to difficult to bear, I hope love becomes your shelter and the beauty of precious memories becomes your comfort.

The suggestion of standing and hugging at the funeral service was not only ingenious but, an incredibly humbling experience. In my 18 years of Law Enforcement I've never seen such a display of emotioms between the different ranks and different agencies. To see each of us embraced in each other's arms, united as one, is a site I will never forget.

February 25, 2007

We were very blessed on the day the Bonner/Holly family moved two doors down from us on our street in White Rock, NM about 18 years ago! Our same-aged children went to school and played together. We kept in close touch after they moved to AZ, and us, to Albuquerque. I will never forget when Nancy and I took Tony, and our son, Steve, to Las Vegas for their 13th birthdays! They had a ball at the amusement park in the back of MGM. We have kept in close touch all these years since then. It would be very difficult to find a more loving family anywhere on this earth! Tony was a very special young man. He truly was "one of a kind!" His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched. We all need to celebrate the life he loved so much. He will be in our hearts forever! God Bless Tony, his loved ones, friends and everyone at GPD! We will never forget the words he took up to Heaven with him engraved on his body, "Live, Love, Serve, Die!" He did them all with commitment and dignity!

Tony,
I'm still not quite sure what to say but here it goes. I can still remember the first day I met you in Detention at the Public Safety Building in Glendale. We were getting ready to go to the academy and I could tell that you were going to be a person I couldn't resist getting to know. I can remember how the group of us going on to ALEA class 401 would constantly kid you about always having to say something or asking a "dumb" question. Later as we started the academy we were carpool mates...You, me, Darrin and Izzie. I can remember questioning if being a police officer was what I wanted to be and you tried to convince me to stick it out. Now, I so regret not listening to you. I wish I could have been there for you my friend. I wish I'd stayed in better contact with you too. I knew you were going to be a great cop. But now, you are in the loving arms of your, and my, Lord. Jesus called you home. Your death, albeit painful and untimely for us, will, I'm certain, have a positive effect... Genesis 50:20 says, "You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people." Tony, your life will live on forever in the hearts of us that knew you. Because of that your memory will inspire growth and spirituality in many others. I and so many others will miss you.

235D, you are 10-7, good night sir. I'm 10-6 now, but I'll 10-25 with you soon.

John and Nancy Bonner and family.
I know how hard it is to lose a loved one, especially one so young and in the prime of their life. Our children and grandchildren are never supposed to go before we do. The lord only knows. Everyone will tell you that he is in a better place now, but you know that he was in a great place here too. I met Tony on several occasions at Gateway and like everyone else has said, he was very friendly, easy to talk to and a very likeable person. He will be greatly missed by everyone. My condolences to all of your family. God Bless.

My favorite memory of Tony was of one night quite some time ago, at a weekly pool party at my parents' house back when we were in high school. It seemed like the entire youth group was in that pool, and while Jim and I relaxed on the deck, Tony tied his towel around his neck as a cape and "flew" around the yard--only to jump the block wall later and "fly" around the neighborhood (he could've just used the gate...). He did something very similar later that year at a bible study at someone else's house. The whole point, his whole reason, was to make someone laugh.

He was always like that. On mission trips, he was always playing pranks of some sort. His love of life and family (he considered his friends his family and treated them as such) brought so much light to the lives of so many people who knew him. I never knew I could miss someone so much until he was taken away.

So here's to Tony, the man who never met a playground he didn't like...may we all live, love, and laugh as freely as you. We'll see you again soon, brother.

Dear Holly family and Police family of Officer Holly, One of my favorite quotes from Ralph Waldo Emerson: "Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." It seems, as I read over these visitor entries, this is exactly what John Holly has done, both in life, and in death. Please accept my condolences on your untimely loss, and remember John's energy has made this world a better place. May you all find healing and strength soon.

I just wanted to extend my deepest sympathy in your loss of such a fine, young Christian man. He was doing what he loved. I submit the following poem, which is my favorite. I hope it will comfort your family.

DO NOT STAND AT MY GRAVE AND WEEP
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glint on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you wake in the morning hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at light.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there, I did not die!

We would like to extend our deepest sympathy in the loss of your precious son.
Our son-in-law is a local police officer - Husband to our daughter and Daddy to our grandchildren. We pray every day for his safety and the safety of fellow police officers. We are proud of their service to our conmmunity. They are indeed our heroes as Tony was.
We are elated to know that your son knew Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior and is now spending eternity in His presence - that brings a peace that passes ALL understanding.
May our Lord hold you tight in His comforting arms during this time of sorrow.

I can't express the feeling when the police community looses one of it's own to a criminal act. Brother, my heart goes out to your family, friends and fellow officers. You will never be forgotten.

Our sincerest and deepest sympathy to Officer Holly's family. Thank you for your wonderful son and his dedication to making Glendale a safer place to live. My son Eric, is also a Glendale police officer who just graduated in Jan. He had the honor of meeting your son a couple of times. Anthony loved being a police officer as does my son. I have taped to my refig. the e-mail Anthony wrote to the young wife whose husband was thinking of becoming a police officer. "God is in control-you can only trust in his will". Thank you for you son and the sacrifice he made in keeping us safe. Our prayers are with you and your family.

As a former city of Glendale employee who worked on police cars, I have a special place in my heart for all the officers. I just wanted them to be safe "out there". There was a feeling of great pride in seeing one of "my" cars on the street and praying that everyone would come home at the end of the shift. Now, my wife and I still continue to pray for our officers as one of our sons now proudly serves. To the family of Officer Holly, we are deeply sadened and continue to pray for you.

To the family and friends of Officer Holly. My husband and I send our deepest sympathies to you all. We didn't know Officer Holly personally, but as a retired Phoenix Police Detective and wife, we are all united. There are no words that can express the loss of a child. The one thing we can be assured of is knowing your son loved the Lord. The Bible tells us that, "absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." Be blessed in knowing that Anthony is with his Lord. We love you in Christian love and will pray for each and everyone of you. God Bless you.
