Dear loved ones of Grant,
It has been nearly six months since this horrific tragedy. My prayer is for you to continue to endure in spite of the emotional pain that greets you each day. May you be comforted in knowing that our heavenly father knows how you feel and listens intently if you call on him and come and pray to him, he listens and will calm your heart. – Jeremiah 29:12
September 1, 2013
To Grant's loved ones, I am praying for you to have the "peace that passes all understanding" as God's word says He promised for bereaved souls. May you be comforted forever by the love of God and the memory of Grant.

While I didn't personally know Grant, I see that he & I both like giving things away! I would like to give his family & friends the hope of the time when the righteous, including Grant, shall possess the earth & live in an abundance of peace. Ps 37:11, 29

The world is full of men, but what of men noble and true?
Can you say that you have known such a man?
These men are far too few.
But let me tell you a a story,
About a team of men
Who left behind a legacy
That will not be forgotten.
Highly trained,
They passed every test,
Chosen to fight wild fires,
They were called the best.
One scorching June day in 2013,
When a wildfire raged
The Hotshots were called upon
To battle the fiery blaze.
Armed with tools and heavy gear,
They set out in their prime,
No job too hard for these men,
No hill too tall to climb.
Command was set, plans were made
To tackle the fire's wrath
But winds shifted unexpectedly
And they were trapped in the fire's path.
19 men were caught that day,
The fire drew quickly near
Though they knew they were truly trapped,
Not a one showed fear.
Dig your shelters, men came the command,
Each one knew what this meant
They dug with haste and with one final look
They took to their tents.
Then let us look away,
For we cannot bear
What came to each one next,
Each man endured in those fiery moments,
His final Hotshot test.
And when the aid finally found the men,
The blackened landscape bore
The testimony of death everywhere,
And the men who were no more.
Oh children, your father was so brave,
A man who did his best
In work excelled, he fought to save,
withstanding every test.
Dear widow, may you never shed
another tear at some unhappy strife
For you've suffered enough dread
The day your husband lost his life.
Young sweetheart, your hopes and dreams
Lay in ashes, from the fire's wrath
May you find hope and dream once more
Though sorrow has changed your path.
Sad mother, your beautiful son,
your joy and your pride
Whom you succored with patient love,
has bravely lived and bravely died.
Two prayers I pray for you, the first,
Though all hope now seem dim
May you have a hope in God,
And place your trust in Him.
Second, May something good,
Something beautiful and strong
Emerge from this tragic loss
From something that went so wrong.
Then like a Phoenix from the ashes
May these men and their noble deeds
Live, for love is stronger than death,
In the lives of those who who stop here to read.

I don't ever remember seeing Grant without a smile on his face. Almost every one of my childhood memories has him in it. My brother and I always got our chores done quickly so that we could play with Grant.
Grant-
I'll always remember the dents we left on my dad's garage from practicing hockey, the window we broke at your grandparent's house when we learned we didn't have quite a good enough arm to throw a baseball over the house, setting up the most awesome club house ever, and "solving crimes" in our neighborhood. Thank you for making growing up so fun.
Scott, Marcia, Aunt Lori, Grandma Mae, and the rest of the family- My prayers are with you and I hope you can find rest in knowing how many lives Grant touched even in his short time here.

Dear Grant,
You were my son Masons roomate in college and we saw eachother thru a really difficult time. Not one day did we miss eachothers calls, and we talked for hours.I'm SO proud of you and I will forever be thankful to you for what you and your father brought to Masons life. I won't ever forget the time we spent together and the privelage of meeting and having dinner with you and Mason and meeting your mother.I wish I could reach out to her, but I can't find her. My heart is heavy and my eyes full of tears, but I know that The Lord called you home for good reason and that you are happy and okay. I will see you again someday. I love you. You were a hero in way more ways than one. Love Always, Stacy Barcello

Grant was the precious kid who lived up the street who always came knocking at the door to play with my Mattie and Joscelyn when they were all little. As I read through the story of the grown up Grant, I can just see him as a kid...even then, his was as everyone is now describing him as an adult...loving and kind and caring... and I would add: with a smile that absoutely could light up a whole neighborhood...my neighborhood...and made those years full of great memories for my kids...Grant turned our little piece of Cost Mesa into Mayberry when he was around. Thanks Grant, from the mom who loved you up the street.

Grant was in our RSP class at Newport El. He was polite, respectful and a joy to be around. He made me laugh. I remember his smiling face and sunny personality. I remember him laughing when I pretended not to recognize him after he bleached his hair blonde. I knew he would make something of himself, and he sure did. It was short lived, but I am proud to have known him. I am touched to have seen him evolve into the fine young hero he became. Loving his memory.....Mrs. B.

I am so sorry for the loss of Grant McKee and his fellow firefighters.
By his choice of profession, he showed that he was a "giver". May his sacrifice for others encourage us all to be more giving.
May your fondest memories soothe you and may time ease your loss.
But most of all, may the God who gives
peace, sustain you now.

To the McKee family. Our hearts are with you in thoughts and prayers as the country mourns the loss of Grant and the other eighteen young heroes. “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends,” John 15:13. May God comfort and strengthen you.
Remember to pray for our firemen and their families everywhere:
PRAYER FOR FIREFIGHTERS
Bless the firefighters—one and ALL;
Go before them on each call.
Protect them as they serve our kind,
Saving lives with theirs on line.
By Your mercy and Your grace,
Keep their families truly safe.
Oh, may they never suffer harm
At the sound of the alarm.
Grant them wisdom, knowledge too—
All, dear Lord, which comes from You.
Daily be their shield and guide;
Never—ever—leave their side.
Strengthen now the hands that serve
With the blessings they deserve.

My husband and I are so sorry for you loss. My husband is a vol. firefighter and it is a brotherhood. No matter where your from or what department it is, the firemen feel the loss of a brother firefighter. We are so sad over the lost lives and especially of Grant, I grew up in Norwood. May God welcome him with open arms. He was a true hero.
The Firefighter's Prayer
When I am called to duty, God, whenever flames may rage;
Give me strength to save some life, whatever be its age.
Help me embrace a little child before it is too late
Or save an older person from the horror of that fate.
Enable me to be alert and hear the weakest shout,
And quickly and efficiently to put the fire out.
I want to fill my calling and to give the best in me,
To guard my every neighbor and protect his property.
And if, according to my fate, I am to lose my life;
Please bless with your protecting hand
my children and my wife.

The citizens of Miami, Florida, are so sorry for your loss. We are thankful for the sacrifice Grant made to save those in harm's way; It is obvious that he possessed a strong desire to help others. May he be well remembered and valued for the life he lived. Jesus must have had Grant in mind when he stated the words at Luke 23:43: "Truly I tell you today, You will be with me in paradise." Comfort the Bereaved
When earthbound days are done, and loved ones go beyond, Sometimes our Lord's promis for eternal life is hidden in grief and loneliness and strife, but, a sympathetic nod, a note that says, "I care", a gesture or a hand to hold will lift clouds of despair. Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. Romans 12:15. We are weeping with your family as you try to cope with this tragedy. Love Joyce, Peoria Az
