Richards, John "Jack" Calvin
97 was born in Coupeville, Whidbey Island, Washington on March 5, 1916 and returned to his Heavenly home on December 7, 2013. He graduated from the University of Washington in 1939. As a member of the National Guard ROTC, he gained commission of 2nd Lt, and taught ROTC classes in the use of the Browning automatic rifle. Called to active duty in the Army Air Force in 1942, he was sent overseas to the South Pacific in 1944 and discharged from the Air Force with a rank of Captain. In Seattle, he managed and owned several grocery stores and later managed apartment complexes, being able to fix anything. As the first convert of his family to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints, he left his family a "journey to forever" as a legacy. With love for his church, he served in many callings including Stake missionary in Seattle, a full-time mission with his wife, Ellen, in the Wallowa Valley, Oregon, as a chaplain, and in three LDS temples. Jack loved gardening, landscaping, cars, guns, bicycling and working with people. He built two beautiful homes. With constant, eternal love for his family, he is survived by his wife, Frances, four children, 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grand-children and a little Yorkie, named "Twinkie." He was preceded in death by his son, John Thomas. Jack was a very kind, loving, generous, courageous, fun, and witty man. Those who knew him loved him dearly. He was a Courageous Defender of Freedom, Faith, and Family.
