In the time I have spent with Grandpa Leo, I have learned many lessons from him, but one very important one was to live life out loud not being afraid of being true to your self.
Leo chose to stick to his own ideals and thoughts, even if it was against the grain. Going against the grain takes strength… self acceptance… and true knowledge in knowing it's not about how you look in life that matters, it's about how you feel in life that matters. The ability to express yourself, your true self, takes vulnerability and strength… a very hard combination to learn unless you have endured a full life and all it has to give. With that- I commend Leo's choice in his unique and colorful ways; I commend his confidence in knowing who he was as a person, and his will to share it with others.
Leo had the gift of sales; whether it be brushes or beauty it didn't matter. All that mattered is he had the passion to sell. Selling is an art form; you put yourself out there to be rejected. It's not for everybody, and for the people that can do it, its an easily recognizable strength that should be appreciated for its ability to put food on the table, raise a family and build a nation on. So whether Leo served as a decorated soldier, a salesman, a beautician, a husband of over 40 years or a single income father of 5, none of that would have been created, maintained or lived without the passion and drive to make it happen.
Leo was very proud of many moments, and many people. He was blessed with daughters, sons in law, grand children and great grandchildren whether all by blood or marriage. Leo was blessed to be married for over 40 years, and gain friendships near and dear along the way. To point out any one accomplishment would be self serving as I know in speaking with him he had plenty to brag about.
I know Leo meant a lot of things to a lot of different people, but to me Grandpa Leo was an irreplaceable gift that lived life full heartedly and I appreciate the lessons he taught me along the way.
Rest in Peace Grandpa Leo may you enjoy all of eternity with beautiful Bubbie.
