I am very shocked & saddened by this news as Mort was a great guy, bigger than life, who always took a big bite out of life. He worked hard, played hard, loved deeply & cranked the music to 11. His spirit lives on & is wailing across the Universe.
NEIL YOUNG:
Hey, hey. My, my. Rock & roll will never die. It's better to burn out, than fade away. Rust never sleeps.

Peace be with all of Mort Erickson's family, friends & rock & roll soldiers.

I loved when we got together at Duffers and had iced tea (at least that is what I had) and Mort and Ed would talk about their military and other stuff. We will miss him.

I will miss being given a hard time by you. Next time we meet I will make you a rum cake. Love you Mort.

I did not get to know Mort like so many others because I quit teaching at Toltec about the time the two love birds, Sharon & Mort got together. For my 4 years of teaching there, Sharon was always searching for someone special, and she could never get past being with Mort. He changed her entire thinking process. He was THE ONE that would complete her. We would go to dinner, and Sharon would say "I am going to marry that man". So, they did marry, and she became complete. Her life was exactly what she had always wanted.
Many years have passed, and Sharon & I have crossed paths a few times, but we are miles apart in distance. A couple of years ago, the 4 of us were all going to go for dinner. I am very sad to say that dinner never happened as life kept creating disruptions for all of us. So, I know that I will never get to really know Mort, but I know that he was the love of Sharon's life. He was the husband, father, papa, fireman, good guy to many. To son Mort, I know that your entire family must be at a complete loss. You have always been a good guy, and I know that you will take very good care of Sharon, as she will of all of you.
My thoughts and prayers have been with my friend Sharon every day. I know she is struggling, but I know that she is a survivor. Mort will watch over her, and everyone else because that is the bond that everyone had. May he rest in peach until one day, we will all meet again.
