Esty, Marshall
82, of Sun City, AZ passed away on December 4, 2016. Marshall graduated "pre-theology" from Elmhurst College (IL) and with a Master of Divinity from Garrett Biblical Institute. He also completed Clinical Pastoral Education and served for 37.5 years as a United Methodist clergy-person in Northern Illinois, until he and Nancy retired in 1995 to Sun City. Marshall is survived by his one and only wife, Nancy (Ness) Esty, three daughters (Joanna Marie, Kristin Li and Debora Mikal), three sons-in-law (Steven, Patrick and Richard), and three grandchildren (Kendra, Maximiliano and Colin). A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Palms, 14808 N Boswell Blvd., Sun City, on Saturday, December 17 at 11 a.m. Throughout his life, Marshall was committed to unity of all God's People across denominations and inter-religious lines, through the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, Ecumenical Retreats, and Ecumenical Hymn Sings. Marshall was an enthusiastic student of the Bible, which led him to attend Bible Camp for over 37 years and facilitate Bible Study throughout his life. In addition, early in his career he led service learning groups to Mexico, as he spoke Spanish. He was also an admirer of God's outdoor handiwork and was a bird watcher and teacher of "birders". Marshall liked to play with words, make puns and jokes, and do crossword puzzles. He was an avid reader. Marshall would be happy to be remembered as taking seriously the saying: "Love People/Use Things", or as the song says - "All I ask of You is Forever to Remember Me as Loving You!"

I knew Marshall when I was a Freshman at Elmhurst College in 1954. He and I went bird watching together and shared good times . He shall always have a special place in my heart as a warm, interesting and "great guy". His friendship meant a lot to me as a green horn freshman.
