Morris, Evelyn Marie (Perkins)
81, of Casa Grande passed away on November 14, 2016 at Dobson Home Hospice. Evelyn was an Arizona native, born in Phoenix on December 15th, 1934. She spent her pre-school years first on a homestead near Meteor Crater, then at Apache Lake as her father and grandfather established the boat landing. The family moved eventually to Earll Drive, Phoenix, where Evelyn attended Creighton Elementary and North High School, graduating ASU with a Masters in Education. After learning her trade teaching at Casa Grande, Paradise Valley, and Phoenix Union High Schools, she found her place and dear friends in the Business Department of Mesa Community College, from where she later retired. Evelyn had served as a 4-H leader and on the Board of Directors of the Arizona Quarter Horse Breeders Association. She had wonderful memories of wild-riding with the Western Saddle club in the 50s and 60s; raising and showing Quarter Horses was her great passion in life, ever since having horses as her day-long "babysitters." She married Donald Harvey Morris in 1956, who was later well known as a Professor of Physical Anthropology at ASU, and enjoyed their rural lifestyle in Chandler, Prescott, and Queen Creek, until his death in 2014. Her last year of life was spent largely in Casa Grande, near her son, Brian, within sight of where she'd lived nearly 60 years earlier. She is preceded in death by parents Cecil and Victoria (Grayek) Perkins, and her brother Cecil Dale. A memorial will be held at a later date. Memories would be welcomed by Brian Morris at P.O. Box 12583, Casa Grande, Arizona, 85230.

In a scrap/photo album my mother (Jackie Turner) put together of old ranch papers was a photo Evelyn had given to Grandpa (Lloyd Adams). It showed a roping/rodeo ground formed with vehicles. I am not sure the origins of the image but it was the rodeo held for the birthday of his grandmother in Texas Canyon. Last fall I finally got around to trying to find the location and so had the photo out with me in the car. It reminded me of the occasional visits with Evelyn and the horse talks we had. A change of pace from all the "anthropology" in our families. So sorry that so many of this generation are leaving us.
