You stand for the Army's Warrior Ethos; Never leave a fallen Soldier behind. It was a very inspiring day when The United States Army dedicated your lasting legacy for all and I will never forget it.

With sincere sympathy and condolences to the Herrera Family.

Our family has many proud connections to this great man and hero. We are honored to have known him. My husband Ray's parents were very proud of Mr. Herrera. They proudly shared memories of the many celebrations they attended which honored Mr. Herrera. Including his hero's welcome from the war, so many years ago. He now shares those memories with our children.

My son Rene, was in the Boy Scouts with Robert, his grandson. I remember the many hiking trips filled with curious questions we asked Robert's father about Mr. Herrera. Our intent was to make sure our children knew about this great Latino hero. One of our children is attending college to be a Latino history professor. Mr. Herrera's history will no doubt be included in his research, writing and classroom lectures. This heroe's legacy will live on!

I was very humbled and honored when in September of 1999 he and I recieved awards at the Valle del Sol Hispanic Leadershop Awards banquet. A picture of the award recipients, is proudly displayed in my office. I went to high school with his children, what a great honor!

Herrera Family, be proud!

God Bless You,
The Rosales Family

Mr. Herrera ("Pop") is my father-in-law. When I started dating his son Robert in 2000 & met Pop he impressed me as a very nice man who liked to kid around. Later on when I learned of his heroism in WWII I was amazed at how humble he was about it & also how much he liked to dance! It's been an honor to be part of his family for over 6 years & I will truly miss him.

Rest Silvestre, until you hear at dawn, the low, clear reveille of God.

Thank you for your service to this nation.

It was 1946 early morning at Grant school. The children were outside to pledge allegiance to our flag. This was a special morning Our Hero
Silvestre S. Herrera would join us.
There he was in his wheelchair smiling and waving to us. We were all so proud of Our Hero. Later in life while standing in line, someone said something cute behind me. I turned around to those friendly twinkling brown eyes. To my amazement he was standing and walking, Our Hero. I saw him many other times he was always so pleasant and humble. I will miss our magnificent Hero Silvestre S. Herrera.

Mona, Glenn and family,
May the memories of your father/grandfather provide your broken hearts with joy. He is in a great place and he is with the woman that he dearly loved. God Bless you all and cherish those memories.
