Copple, Steven Dale
Steven Dale Copple, born on June 14, 1943 in Berkeley, California the youngest child of William and Rowena (Tucker) Copple, passed away on January 4, 2014. The family moved to Yuma, Arizona, home of the Copple grandparents, in 1951 after William Copple's graduation from law school. Steve graduated from Yuma Union High School in 1961, was active in student government and served as a national officer in Key Club International. Attending college at the University of Arizona he earned his BS in 1965 and his JD in 1969 and was then admitted to the Arizona Bar, following in the footsteps of his father and brother. He was a member of the SAE fraternity which was a very important part of Steve's life. Steve began his well-respected law career as a defense attorney and later became a plaintiff's lawyer which became his life's work. He joined the firm of Black, Robertshaw & Copple and then formed the law firm of Copple, Chamberlin, Boehm & Murphy before opening the office of Copple & Copple where he loved practicing law with his son Christopher. Steve was a member of the American Board of Trial Advocacy, the TAOS Group which is a Private Business Retreat of Trial Lawyers, and Steve had recently been accepted into the EEG group that meets several times a year to share medical malpractice data and information. Steve loved his work, he loved being a lawyer and helping people. Anyone who knew him knew he loved to laugh and was a fun, kind, and compassionate man. I think the most joy and fun Steve had was when he and his son opened the law firm of Copple & Copple. The cruelest part of losing Steve, is that it happened so quickly but we will never forget him. He is survived by his partner of 15 years Carol Campbell, son Steven Christopher Copple, daughter Kim Copple-Reed (Paul), ex- wife Jamie Copple, Carol's grandchildren (whom he dearly loved as his own), Jordan and Jaden Campbell; brother in law Dan and Lonna Powell, sister in law Jean Copple; nieces and nephews Brian and Pam Copple as well as their son Mark; Christy Copple and her sons, Trevor and Casey; Cathy and Andy Swann and their children Tucker, Dillon, and Lainey; Rick and Disi Schilke and children Brittany, RJ, Randi Jo, and Suzi; Linda Schilke and her sons Sam and Kenny, and family pets Snowflake, Katie and Brownie. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014, 1:30pm at Christ' Church of the Ascension, 4015 E. Lincoln Dr., Paradise Valley, AZ 85253. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are being accepted at (HALO, The Arizona Humane Society, ASPCA or any animal shelter of your choice) in honor of Steve's "grand-dogs". I met Steve this Fall when he was grilling me in a deposition - he knew what he was doing and yet, even though he wanted to take me apart, I kept thinking that once this case settled or whatever, I would look him up and play a round of golf. Nice man.

I'm sorry to hear about the passing of Steve. I found him to be a great person and friend. My thoughts go out to his family, especially, Chris. Who I had the pleasure to coach him in youth soccer. Which led me to know both his parents.

To the Copple Family,
I would like to express my deepest condolences at the loss of Steve. I have known Steve since we were both in elementary school. We were 2nd cousins on my grandmother's side. Steve was also in our wedding as a groomsman and grew up with my husband Patrick down in the valley in Yuma. They both went to Crane School and we all graduated from Yuma High School. He will be greatly missed.

To the family of Steve Copple, Since the days at Crane & YUHS, I will always remember how Steve was made to be a leader of anything he tried to do. His mom, dad, and brother Leonard seemed to help Steve be at the top in his education and taught him how to always be smiling, helpful, courteous, & friendly to all types of people he would come across. All who knew Steve will always admire and love him. I did.

You are one of my dearest, treasured, and most-loved friends. In my memories of our many shared lunches, our long-winded phone conversations and delightful discussions on your many theories, I will continue to visit you again and again. Oh! how you made me think, and delve and discover and grow; yet, in everything we laughed and delighted in life's lighter side. I'll miss you bursting in upon the office with your "Hello Ladies! and offering up surprises of cinnamon bread, flowers and even wine on occasion! What a honorable mark you have made on my life!
