I am a 92 year old WWII vet and knew Bill very well from Garfield grade school along with Wendell (Red) Brown and Phill Brown through Monroe and Phoenix Union High School. I also made many model air planes with Bill and one year, about 1938, I won state champion ship. We formed a club called "The Copper Clad Eagles". We sponsored many model air plane contests. Early in WWII, before I was drafted, I remember Bill talking about flying the P 38 with one engine for the fun of it. I became a ME engineer in 1950, University of Arizona, and became a gas turbine engineer for General Electric. I wish I had known about his where abouts so I could have talked with him about our early days making model air planes. I have many fond memories of him and the gang of Phoenix model air plane makers.

Hi Mary,
I got your email message and I was at AHS '76-'80. My brother was there 4 years before me and I think he was a student of your dad's.
For some reason I remember your dad always wore a white short sleeve shirt and grey pants and would always be at his desk in his "homeroom".
Your dad was really nice and I wish I would have taken the time to get to know him.

Mr Conley was my math teacher at Alhambra. I wish I could go back and talk to him about WWII. He was a really nice man and genuinely cared about his students and their success. He was always at his desk! Always available.
I offer my condolences to his family. You were lucky to have a real hero in your family.
