My father Leo "Naliborski" Nelson's favorite St. Louis Cardinal baseball player was Stan Musial. Leo played baseball for DeAndreis High School and for many teams in the St. Louis area during the 50s and 60s. He grew up near Sportsman Park.
He was diagnosed with Ahlzeimers disease in 2007 and passed away in October 2011 at about the time The Cards won the World Series in 2011. During his stay in a nursing home we would play catch and I would ask him who his favorite player was and he would say "Stan Musial" some of his last words was Stan Musial. In photos of my father in high school he was always #6. He loved his Cardinals and Stan Musial. One of his last gestures when he heard St. Louis advanced to the World Series in 2011 he raised a baseball in salute to the St. Louis Cardinals.
I hope he gets a chance to meet his hero in heaven and to play catch with him.
Last year while at a Wedding in St. Louis we visited his statues at Busch Stadium and took alot of pictures. Im glad we had an opportunity to see Stans
statue and Busch Stadium.
Rest in Peace Stan Musial.
