What a lovely young man. I knew him in high school and reconnected about a year before his graduation. I loved him and look forward to seeing him again.

Dear Janelle,
I was thinking about your father yesterday, had few moments, did a search on him and Jeanine and found your husband's obituary. This is not the way I would like to reconnect with old class mates.
I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to you and your family for your loss. I now that this must have created a great void in your life at a time when we all are easing into our retirement years.
To lose a spouse at this time in life has to be very devastating. Reading the obituary, I feel that the memories that you have will be some consolation to you and, hopefully make the hurt a little less.
I would like to extend my deepest sympathy and condolence to you and your children.

My family and I had such a wonderful relationship with Steve's predecessor,Rev.Sanders, that I thought we would not be happy again at S.L.Tahoe Presbyterian Church. Steve proved us wrong. Thank you so much for all the precious moments that my family and I shared with Rev. Steven Blocher. We offer our heart felt sympathy to the family, and thank you for sharing Steve with us.

Oh Janelle:

I feel so sad in learning of our loss of Steve. While your loss must be so deep, as it is (obviously) so personal to you, Stephen, Jenna, Tara and I deeply feel his loss as well.

As I think you know, the children and I came to Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian in the midst of my divorce: best in the long run, but very challenging for me, and especially Stephen (Jenna was so small she didn't know the difference). Your church gave us our first church home together (and Pastor Steve was raised United Methodist - Same as I. LOL. My mother suggested that Presbyterian might work well for me). Steve, you, and so many Presbyterian ministers continued drawing us into the church's fold.

We've been in Long Beach since September, 2008, and I started attending Grace First Presbyterian Church here months before the move - while I was still traveling back and forth between here and Tahoe for work purposes. I suppose I ought to change my membership...

Steve baptized both Stephen and Jenna. And, though their father and I don't see eye-to-eye on many things, he attended the service when they were baptized. We love our church, and the pastors, and the ministers - and all people- here at Grace first. And I am so grateful, every minute of every day, for all that Lake Tahoe, through Steve, you, and all of its congregational ministers, have provided to the children and me.

I am very sad to hear of Steve's passing. I miss you. I would so love to go to lunch with you (Thai food works, doesn't it? : ) ). I imagine that the changes in Pastor's death are frightening for you on so many levels.

I love you. My children love you. I am so grateful for everything Steve, and you individually, have given to me. Your presence in my life - and in Stephen's and Jenna's lives - has made such a big, and lovely, difference.

If there is anything I can do for you, please let me know. If you're ever in Southern California, please let me know - we always have a place for you!

You are in my prayers, and you have helped me realize that God is always in my life.

And, just from my selfish perspective: I always loved Steve's sermons. My best, my most heartfelt, and my never-forgotten lessons from Pastor Steve: Grace. Undeserved forgiveness. The notion has filled my heart and has changed how I live. It has changed how I parent. God gives me grace. Always. The notion has changed my world. And so my children's. And so my friends'. My world is different because of Pastor Steve at Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian. And my children are better people for it.

I'm sorry for the overwhelming sadness you must be feeling. I am happy to know you; and I'm so happy to have had Pastor Steve's guidance for 2 years.

Thank you. And godspeed to Pastor Steve.
