Josie I am so sorry to hear the news about Carmen's passing. My prayers are with both of you and I know how much he loved you. Together you were an unbeatable force and I know Carmen will never leave you or any of his friends. I truely believe special people are always with us only know he get's to be heaven's champion as well. My brothers and I were given a lifetime of memories and lessons from Carmen and for that I will always cherish! Rest in peace champ you are the peoples champion both inside and outside the ring. I love you and will miss you always .

My introduction to boxing came with the classic battles between Carmine and Gene Fuller. My father spoke of both men as "gentlemen", his highest compliment. We mourn his passing and thank you his family for allowing us to share the gift of his life.

Dear Josey:
You and Carmen made our father so happy whenever the two of you would visit us in Cleveland. We are very sorry for your loss and we know that the Champ and our Dad are having a good laugh up in heaven right now. With much respect-

To one of the greatest fighters ever to step in the ring. I was a young boy when I met Mr. Basilio when he fought in Chicago. My father was also a boxer and a retaurant owner. He knew many of the fighters from the east coast and midwest. We went to his dressing room and had a couple photos taken with him and his trainer. I lost my pop July 2012. He always told stories of Carmen and I have those photos still on the wall of my den. He will be missed as a great fighter and gentleman. Say hello to my pop Mr. Basilio. You were one of his favorites, and mine to. God bless you and your family. Respect always.

I asked Carmen one day who was the toughest fighter he ever fought , And Carmen replied barring none I would have to say Josie! And keep in mind he said not only did I never win a bout , I never even won a round! Rest In Peace beautiful friend a life well lived! Jo we will keep you and the entire Basilio Family close in our hearts and forever in our prayers!

He was one hell of a welterweight boxer, never saw any of his fights in person, a few on TV. but he was one tough Italian-American, that we are so proud of. I was 17 yrs old in 1997 and he was my idol....My deepest sorrow and sympathy to the family! Joe Doria

As a child, my Uncle and I would watch the Friday night fights. My hero, the fighter I most admired, was Carmen Basilio. I remember him after every fight kneeling, making the sign of the Cross and saying a prayer of Thanksgiving. A humble man showing his faith in God. Mr. Basilio, you answered the final bell and now wear the belt of Salvation. You were a role model to many, even to people you never met. Reste in Pacis.
