Professor Woodey was a great professor and tremendously kind person. My experience in law school would not have been the same without him and his calming nature in an otherwise insane environment. I am truly saddened by his loss.

Professor Woodey was the kindest soul and a great mentor. My experience in law school was shaped largely on his calming influence in an otherwise insane environment. He was a great person and I am sorry to hear of his loss.

Joel helped me enter the strange world of law teaching. As a result, I also came know Barbara. What a lovely family, and we had many good times together

Joel was endlessly interesting. He had a first-rate, incredibly inquisitive mind, and he was a delight to talk with on an amazing variety of topics.

Above all, Joel was a real gentleman, and an extremely nice person. We shall all miss him. RIP

Joel and I came to the faculty together and for all the years I knew him, he was unfailingly warm and thoughtful. He let me sit in on his seminar on ancient law several times and it was a wonderful experience - showing each of us "the widow's mite" - the real coin! He shared all of his treasure of the ancient world with his students and even with his colleague. He will be missed.
