I met John on a visit he made to West Point when I was a cadet. Over the coming years, we visited in Washington DC and Thousand Oaks. My last discussion was after he returned from Africa. Out of the blue, he called me to catch up on my life and let me know how he was doing-not well I should add. Over the years, I found him to be a caring and thoughtful man and priest always having kind words and treating myself and later my family as welcome friends. Quite the man. I'll miss him.

Dear Father John.
You definitely made a positive impact on so many of your students. You helped us see what our capabilities were before we had any idea of our potential. I was one of the students who were blessed by your presence, intellect and wit at St Francis High School. I remember being in your Christian Psychology class during my senior year. Your comments to me really did have a positive impact. Thank You. I wish I would have come to Mass at St. Nicholas when you were there. Thanks for staying in touch later on. May you Truly Rest In Peace.

Thank You Fr. John for caring about a stupid little kid from nowhere that was going nowhere. I treasure every moment of your gentle guidance and prayed for you often (as I know you did for me). I feel profound loss at learning of your passing today. I told you I wanted to believe and you delivered.
