Richard L. "Ricky" Madsen Battle Creek Richard L. "Ricky" Madsen, age 40, of Battle Creek, died July 22, 2012. Ricky was born September 10, 1971 in Marshall to Russell P. Madsen and Sandra K. (Sweet) Madsen. He grew up in Marshall and graduated from Marshall High School in 1991. He then moved to Battle Creek where he has worked for Denso Corporation for over 17 years, currently as a fork lift operator. He was married to Tonya Black and the marriage later ended in divorce. He was the proud father of his two sons, Brendon and Jacob. Anywhere that Ricky could go and take his sons with him resulted with them being with him most of the time! He loved to boat and liked to take his sons out on his pontoon on Beadle Lake. He was the assistant coach for Brendan's Little League Baseball Team (until Brendon broke his arm!). Ricky would have a special day of the week for each of his sons and spend time with them individually doing something that was special to each of them. He also would spend time with his companion Christen Walters son, Michael Walters as well with two special nieces, Jessica and Carlena Vincent. Ricky enjoyed playing city rec softball at Bailey Park in Battle Creek. He was a dedicated and devout MSU sports fan, often taking issue with other members of his family who leaned towards the Maize and Blue part of the state! He was talented at good natured teasing, which always involved his big, wonderful smile. It is easy to conclude that Ricky filled his life with love for his sons and family and life itself! Surviving are his sons, Jacob and Brendon Madsen at home; his companion, Christen Walters, and her son, Michael Walters at home; his mother, Sandra Kelly of Battle Creek; his father and step-mother, Russell Madsen and Kelly Lehn-Madsen of Traverse City; his step-father, Steve Kelly of Battle Creek; his sisters, Dawn (Michael) Vincent of Battle Creek and Ashley Lehn of Traverse City; his brothers, Russell Madsen of Northport, Michael Madsen, Aaron (Jackie) Lehn and Chris DeLoy all of Traverse City; his paternal grandfather, Douglas Jones of Kalamazoo; and nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 723 US27 N., Marshall on Wednesday 2PM-4PM and 6PM-8PM, where funeral services to celebrate his life will be held on Thursday, July 26, at 10:30AM with Rev. I remember when you lived next door to us on South Marshall. Ricky (& Dawn & Russ)were always so sweet and nice to me even though I was younger and the little neighbor pest! Ricky would tease and joke with me, but never in a mean spirited way. I'm sure he turned out to be a very sweet man, and I'm so sorry for your loss.

I know Rick from work, I am security and we would make silly faces to each other as he would drive through the gate with the Denso box truck. I would pick on him all the time because of him being on his cell all the time. Very nice to have known him and his smiles will be very missed. It won't be the same with out him at the gate everyday! Prayers for the family and his boys.
