Family and friends gathered Saturday 10/25/2014 to lay Bruce Hersey to rest. Here is the eulogy given that I was asked to share...

Welcome friends and loved ones, as we pay respect to Bruce and remember what a wonderful person he was, or rather still is, and always will be as I see it. Barbara asked me to speak today, she thinks I'm supposed to be good at this, and that I might not turn into a blubbering idiot. I'm reminded this was also asked of Bruce to speak for Tristan's Memorial Garden, he had a beautiful little speech, but couldn't hold back the tears either.

Now it's obvious I'm not the most religious person here, but Bruce and I shared a lot as far as our outlook on life and the world around us, whether real, surreal, or just unknown. Our lives and our own beings are shaped by our experiences and interaction with others. The good people we meet and love and work with; along with those personalities and experiences that are lets say - not so fabulous, all of this makes us who we are.

I believe that your soul is a part of you in life, it's who you are. But also your soul and spirit is a part of each and every being you've ever touched, some more than others, but always a slice. Bruce is an extraordinary man, a terrific son, brother, uncle, father, husband, and friend. His honesty and integrity, with his intelligence and compassion, and his sense of humor and friendly personality are all part of him and therefore also a part of us.

Even though he has left us in body, his spirit lives on in the many good people that have the honor of being in his life. His soul will always be with us, he'll always be a part of us, we'll never forget, and we should feel good about that. And by the way, it's ok to feel good about it. Bruce most always has a bright, positive perspective. I think we also share the attitude that when things get tough, we cannot dwell on how good or bad things seem, but just to keep moving forward. Be positive, consider your options, think it through rationally, be honest and good with yourself and others, make your choices, move on and don't look back. That's how Bruce is, that's what we wants from all of us, because he makes us who we are, and we'll never forget that he's a part of us all.

Heather, Barbara, and Kevin,

My sincere condolences for your loss. I'll miss seeing Bruce at Autocraft. Just a couple of weeks ago, Bruce gave me a ride to my house while I left my car for servicing. During the ride home we had a great conversation and I learned that Bruce once lived just down the street from me. I'm glad that I had this opportunity to get better acquainted with Bruce. He was always very friendly and considerate to me when doing business at the shop.

Deepest sympathy in the loss of this fine man.

Regards,

Rodney Duplisea
