James Bailey Obituary

James M. 'Tim' Bailey passed away on February 7, 2013, at his Nederland home, among friends and in the care of his family, following a long battle with lung cancer and Alzheimer's Disease. Tim was born at home, on Thomas Blvd in Port Arthur, on September 22, 1940, to Jessie Ruth and James R. Bailey. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1959. He served honorably for four years in the United States Army, as a small weapons armorer. After leaving the Army, he enjoyed racing hot rods with his friends at the Nederland Drag Strip. Tim married Carol Anne Davis of Port Neches on December 17, 1966, and they eventually moved to their home in Nederland. They remained happily married until Carol's passing in August 1997. Tim never remarried. Most people will remember Tim as a Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputy, retiring in 2002 after 13 years of dedicated service. His career in law enforcement began as a Patrol Officer for the Perryton, Texas Police Department, where he worked until transferring back to Jefferson County. Tim was also a very experienced pipefitter and welder, and enjoyed a long career in construction before becoming a Police Officer. Tim was an active member of First Baptist Church, Nederland. He attended regularly, and enjoyed lending his time and efforts for special events and activities. He will also be remembered as an avid hunter and shooter. For many years, he served on the Board of Directors for the Golden Triangle Gun Club, where he directed various shooting sports activities. Tim was a wonderful father to two sons, and he enjoyed teaching them his love of hunting and shooting. Tim was preceded in death by both of his parents, and his loving wife of 30 years. He is survived by his brother, G.W. Bailey, of Los Angeles, Ca; his sons Darren Bailey, of Nederland, and Wes Bailey of Bridge City; his daughter-in-law, Tiffany Bailey, of Bridge City; and his three granddaughters Emily, Mallory, and Audrey Bailey, of Bridge City.
