I was fortunate to play with Chuck on the Collinsville inter-city league team that Doug Edwards played for. This team was managed by my step-dad Glen Gutjahr. I remember seeing Chuck play before I joined the team and was in awe of his skills. I too was a shortstop. Because I was a "prospect", Chuck graciously moved to second base for a while so I could hone my skills. I'll never forget that. He was a great guy and teammate and I look fondly on those years.

My son, Paul, played baseball for Collinsville in the early '90's and had the pleasure of competing against Chuck's teams. In fact, he was instrumental in beating West a couple of times. You better believe Chuck knew he was my son. He always made a point of talking to Paul after the games. I really appreciated that.

I always made it a point to say hello to him at the baseball games he coached and the basketball games he attended. He was always one of my favorite guys.

We will all be diminished a little now that he is gone. But, we are all much better for having known him.

May God truly bless and sustain you in your loss.

Sorry to hear about Mr. Hasenstab's passing. I never had him for a coach or a teacher but knew him well through his kids. My sympathies to all of you. You're in my thoughts.
