I just heard this news :) . A Special lady it seems, just last week I was eating lunch with her at the shrine . Plotting & planning how to make the world a better place .. I'll never forget once she told me on filed trips she had the bus driver take the route through the finest neighborhoods to show the kids all things are possible. ! I will miss her ..

I can honestly say that she was my favorite teacher of all time. I just adored her and fondly remember her. Sadly, I was never able to spend time with her as an adult. However, she certainly gave me such encouragement and love. I will always be grateful for educators that make such an impact on the lives of their students.

Of all the teachers I had in my school life Mary Moore McHugh was my favorite. She inspired me to do better. When I was in her class she was Mary Moore, and she was active in the local teachers' union. She always talked about public schools accepting every child that walks through the door. She made a difference in each of her student's lives.

I went back to Franklin when I was learning how to become a teacher. As you can imagine, my former teacher now remarried and named Mary McHugh, was there to help. I did my initial internship at Franklin with the loving school faculty and parents.

I went on to be an elementary teacher. I spent my 34 years in Missouri's public school, and I always remembered Mrs. McHugh's strong belief in our public school system. This inspired me to become active in out teachers' union. I loved every minute of it knowing that I was making Mary proud.

Mary, you will be sorely missed hut never forgotten. May there be many more Mary McHugh's in the world.
