I will remember Merle forever. My condolences to her family. She prepared me well for college; my last job being in server support for Hewlett Packard. I will never forget all the wonderful football and basketball games where the school spirit excelled due in large part to the cheerleader squad.

I had Mrs. Guthrie for Geometry. She was a teacher whose reputation preceded her. She definitely took you to task and you didn't dare come to her class unprepared. However, in looking back at her style of teaching, I know she had a real passion for her work and her students. She wanted us to be successful, and we had to work for that success! God bless you, Mrs. Guthrie for all that you did!

I had Mrs. Guthrie the last two years she taught. She was tough and never accepted anything less than perfect. When she retired, she gave me a few of her ceramic frogs from her collection. She said it was for my desk when I taught geometry at WEST. I'm proud to say that those frogs sit proudly on my desk as I teach geometry at BTHS West. She made an impact on more lives than she ever knew.

I had the privilege to have Mrs. Guthrie for geometry and advanced algebra. She made math interesting and I have continued that interest throughout my career as an Engineer in Silicon Valley. I owe her a great deal of thanks for that. My condolences to her family and friends, may God bless you and keep you.
