I met you the first time I won a Battle of the Bands. You told me I put on a better show than Chiodos( one of your favorite bands). It was the nicest thing anyone had said to me about my music, and it was my second show. Then, we started talking casually to each other through AIM, and I got to know you slightly. You ended up becoming good friends with Tyler Wait, and I was pulled in by you. We were young, and you were always so blunt, funny, and determined. Always wanting me to hit you for no reason, just because of Fight Club, and obsessed with guitar tones and pinch harmonics. You joined MOASM and we played a handful of shows with you, and I am honored to have shared the stage with you, but the down time mattered more to me. The times in Tyler's basement, or in front of the computer screen on YouTube watching the funniest video you had found at the moment. When the band ended, we played a reunion, and you agreed to play one show and not the other. I'll never forget giving you the microphone at the last MOASM show, letting you scream the part you should've been anyways.
After that, we didn't see each other as much for a while, but you would always text me or shoot me a message online to hang out and we always would. I started other bands, and you always showed your support. You were at plenty of my shows, and I remember seeing your smiling face in the audience, singing along with my lyrics. That meant so much to me, but means even more now. Because of you, my music taste was expanded so much. I can hardly listen to anything now without thinking of you. You are apart of me and those songs. When I had reached an all time low, you were always there for me and I was always there for you. You were ready with a witty comment, or some obnoxious scenario to make me feel better, ALWAYS. You were always down to ride along with me to some party so I could see a girl, or just sit with me in the car until the sun came up. You were always up for anything. We've seen different worlds together, and done things no one else will ever experience. You were a true friend, and I thank you.
Through all the bands and things, you became one of my best friends. The type of friend you couldn't see for a year, and it wouldn't be awkward when they popped up, just straight back to love and kicking it. Randal, I can't believe you are gone, but thank you so much for all of the great times and light you shed on to my life, especially when I needed you the most. You were always there. Where ever you chose to go, I ask you watch over everyone who you held dear, and I know it will be a task cause there are so many of them, but you can do it buddy, you could do anything. Like I said before, we always thought that we lived so far away from each other, but now I realize more than ever you were always and will always be close as ever, living in my heart and my mind. I love you Randal. You will be missed, and never forgotten.
The last time I saw you was a month ago today. We played guitar together, watched TV and laughed our faces off. Then we ate pizza. You talked to me about how you were moving to Florida. You swore to me that San Francisco would win the World Series. Then, I helped you load your gear into your car. Before you left, you gave me a hug and said, " I'll see you soon man"
I'll feel that hug forever.
It'll never be soon enough.
Thanks for everything. You won't be matched.
