May 8, 2019
We saw her just the other day ,
Her cheeky smile lit up the way.
She remembered things from long ago
But only yesterday it seemed.
The grandkids listened intently
Of the days of old.

Could life have been so wonderful and simple
So many years ago ?
They smiled at all the funny things
That Nan used to do and say.
Nan , they cried , did you really get on stage ?
She lent over and whispered
Yes , my little ones , that is my way.
It's always best to join in and be the fun
She always used to say.

The kids could have stayed for hours
But sadly it was time to go.
I need a little rest , she said.
And we all said our goodbyes.

But before she left
She turned around and said
Do you know the best thing in life to be ?
And they all shook their little heads.
Be kind , just be kind ,
And then she went to bed.

Nan laid down and her body relaxed
She drifted in and out of sleep
And dreamt of days gone by.

She saw her girls running from plate to plate
And sliding into third.
She saw them taking a great catch
Or hitting it high and long.

They played it tough,
Her kids ,
Those Blacktown girls.

A smile then came on her face
As she heard them say ,
Thanks Mum , Thanks Coach .

Her dream drifted in and out.
But she knew her Bob was about.
Her heart filled with happiness
With the life they shared.
She thought about their football team
And how they would watch
To see how Liverpool had fared.

Then slowly through the clouds
Bob's arm come through to hold his wife's hand.
Our Mum , Our Nan , Our Auntie , Our Coach
You will never walk alone.

Much Love , Brian ( you will be missed by us all )
