Jay Taylor Palmer of Greenfield, MA and Shaftsbury, VT, passed away on October 8, 2017.
He was born on January 19, 1944. Jay T. Palmer grew up in in Greenfield, MA and graduated in 1962 from Greenfield High School. He graduated from Norwich University in 1966 with a BA in History and a commission as 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He received his MA in American History from Sam Houston State University and was a teacher in the History Department.
Jay entered the U.S. Army in 1969 as a 2LT of Armor. After the Army Officers School at FT. Knox, he was assigned as a troop commander in the 3rd Cavalry Regiment at Ft. Lewis. Shortly after he was posted to South Korea as an Infantry company commander. After a short tour at Ft. Dix, CPT Palmer left active duty in 1971. He continued his active duty in 1990 for Operation Desert Shield and spent a year at Forces Command at Ft. McPherson. His military career ended as Lieutenant Colonel with 28 years of service.
Mr. Palmer was a foreman with Sprague Electric Company and Steiner Film Inc. from 1973 to 1988. He was team chief for TRW in Saudi Arabia, developing curriculum for the Royal Saudi Land Forces Infantry School from 1993 to 1995. He and his wife opened several restaurants in the area, built a "Bow House" in Pownal on North West Hill Rd. and refurbished colonial homes throughout their marriage. His civic duty continued into his retirement as a volunteer docent for the Bennington Museum and with service on the local community board. The crowning achievement of his craftsmanship is his renovated colonial farmhouse in Shaftsbury, VT.
He is survived by his 3 children, Daniel, Jennifer and Matthew, his beloved granddaughter, Taylor, and his sister Gale and brother Clark.

I got to know Jay during the annual Deer Hunting event at Clark's (Brother) property. Such an interesting person and so easy to talk to. He will surely be missed.

We went to High School together, Jay was always funny and a great kid, Never forget his flat top with wings hair cut. And his moms new VW bug.
