Following a long illness, William J. (Chub) Sargood, 86, a resident of Hoosick Falls passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at his residence.
"Chub" was born on December 15, 1931, in Hoosick Falls, son of Richard and Mary (Shannahan) Sargood. He was married to Phyllis (Betner) Sargood, his high school sweetheart on June 26, 1954 while serving in the United States Navy. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955 as a diesel engineman. He worked several jobs in the area until he retired from St. Gobain in 1997.
He was a member of the St. Stanislaw Society, Elks Club, Derby Club, Hoosick Falls Country Club and the Pioneer Fish and Game Club. He enjoyed woodworking, golf, hunting and fishing. He mostly enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren Derek, Haley, Kyle, Amanda, Brooke, Brody and great-grandson Wyatt.
Survivors include his wife Phyllis, daughter Kathleen Sturgeon (Max), two sons William Jr. (Margaret), and Gary (Anne) Sargood He is also survived by a sister, Margaret Rousseau and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Robert, Dick, Donald "Tiny" Sargood and a sister Mary Cross.
SERVICES: Relatives and friends may call at the Immaculate Conception Church in Hoosick Falls on Monday, January 15 from 9:30 till 11:00 AM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at the church at 11:00 AM. The burial will be at the convience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to either the Immaculate Conception Church or the Voice of the Vet through the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY.
Immediately following the Mass, there will be a gathering with family and friends at the Hoosick Falls Fire House at Main St. and Griffin Ave.
