No doubt Mr. and Mrs. T were like surrogate parents for many young men far away from home, often for the first time. Certainly they were for me, and have remained so since we parted. Mr. T went on to mentor and coach elsewhere years ago, of course, and now Mrs. T has followed him.

I will share just one memory, from almost 50 years ago. I had left Thailand and had been in Vietnam for a few months, when I was summoned to the Company Commander's Office one day. All the way there, I wondered which of my transgressions had caught up with me. I was surprised, relieved, and very grateful when I arrived and was given a box of homemade chocolate chip cookies that Mrs. T had sent to me by a Lieutenant Colonel who they learned would be passing through on his way from Thailand to the U.S.

That was only one of many things they did for me, and I will remember Mr. and Mrs T with admiration and affection until I die, as will my family and as did my parents who knew them only through me.

Mrs. Dorothy was an incredible lady. She will be missed very much in our quiet little neighborhood. We have enjoyed having her as our neighbor for 23 years.
