Antoinette Book
1922 - 2014 PITTSFIELD Antoinette (Ross) Book passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on Jan. 28, 2014, at the Mt. Greylock Extended Care Facility, with her loving husband and daughter by her side. Antoinette Ross was born April 17, 1922, in Pittsfield to Anthony and Gisella Ross, the youngest daughter of their 15 children. Antoinette graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1939. On Sept. 20, 1942, Toni married Francis (Bud) Book. They celebrated 72 happy years together. Toni worked at General Electric, England Brothers, First National, and retired from the work force while at Price Chopper, Lenox. Toni continued to work part-time at Mt. Carmel Rectory until 2008 when the parish closed. She attended Mt. Carmel and St. Charles churches and was a longtime member of the Ladies Guild at Mt. Carmel. Toni was a fantastic baker, famous for her banana and pumpkin breads and coffee cakes. She loved shopping, especially for sweaters, and doted on her 5 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren who called her "Little Nani." She is survived by her loving husband, Bud; children, William (Ellie) Book of Las Vegas, Nev., and Beverly Mahoney of South Burlington, Vt.; grandchildren, Mandy (Don) Dobson of San Jose, Calif., Carrie Eggleston of Lancaster, Ohio, Heather (Dr. Michael) Morton of Golden, Colo., Dr. Kevin (Meaghan) Mahoney of Seekonk, Mass., and Sean (Nicole) Mahoney of Chatham, N.J.; great-grandchildren, Ross and Lane Eggleston, Emily, Ian, Teaghan and Sydney Morton, Riley, Caelen and Declan Mahoney, Callahan, Lochlan, Keane, Mannix, and Shamus Mahoney. Antoinette was predeceased by her parents, her four brothers, Sam, George, Carmen and Gregory, and her two sisters, Conchetta and Rose. FUNERAL NOTICE: Services will be Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014 at 9 a.m. from the FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, MA. 01201. A liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Church with the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday, Feb. 4, from 4 to 6 p.m. The former Ladies Guild of Mt. Carmel Church will meet at the funeral home, Tuesday, Feb. 4, at 5 p.m.. for a prayer service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Mt. Greylock Extended Care Facility Activities Program in care of the funeral home. Antoinette's family would like to thank the staff at Mt. I remember 'Toni" from Cromwell Ave. and Englands. She so generously offered Beverly to walk me to my 'new' school so long ago.
