Carol McCarron
NORTH ADAMS Carol Richard McCarron, 78, of 61 Tyler St., passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2014. Born on Oct. 4, 1935, in Williamstown, she was the daughter of John Joseph and Eudocha (Rondeau) Richard. She attended Williamstown Public Schools and graduated from Williamstown High School, where she excelled in academics and archery, with the class of 1953. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from North Adams State College where her field of interest was English Literature. It was there that she met her husband, Eugene J. McCarron, whom she married on Aug. 13, 1956, at St. Patrick's Church in Williamstown. They made their home in North Adams where they raised their ten children, and were each employed by the North Adams Public Schools, Mr. McCarron as a science teacher and Mrs. McCarron as an enthusiastic substitute teacher. Her literary interests continued throughout her life and she became a prolific poet, writing about her family, her gardens, her faith and her love of the diverse beauty of nature. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. McCarron was predeceased by her son, Shawn Andrew. Carol was a communicant and a devoted Eucharistic Minister at St. Francis Church throughout her adult life, where she also was a member of its Rosary Society. As a teenager, she spent every summer as a camp counselor at the Williamstown Girl Scout Camp on Northwest Hill where she taught outdoor skills to young campers in the "Lost Colony," and, during high school, she worked as a telephone operator at the Williamstown office on Spring Street at a time when each call was connected individually by the operator. As their children were growing up, the family spent many fondly remembered vacations on the beaches of Cape Cod, and after their children had homes of their own, Mr. and Mrs. McCarron travelled extensively in the western United States and in Ireland with ElderHostel. Carol leaves her children, five daughters, Mary Jean Marotta of Leominster, Margaret Eudocha Fitzpatrick of Novi, Mich., Barbara Ann Naclerio of Madison, Conn., Kathleen Blanche Morey of Scotia, N.Y., and Melissa Nancy McCarron of Northampton; four sons, Michael John McCarron of North Adams, Patrick Joseph McCarron of Lehi, Utah, Paul Thomas McCarron and Matthew Anthony McCarron, both of Adams; two brothers, John Albert Richard of Wynantskill, N.Y., and Peter James Richard of North Adams; her sister, Nancy Richard Donta of Falmouth, 15 grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and her caring companion during her long illness, her daughter-in-law Marie Najame McCarron. I was very sorry of learning that Mrs. McCarron passed away. She was very fortunate to have a wonderful husband who was a role model teacher and great kids, several of which I have had the pleasure to go to school with.

To Carol's family:
I've known a your mom for many years and always admired and respected her devotion to her faith and to her family. I worked closely with Carol for many years at St. Francis. And she was such a valuable member of out RCIA team for so long. she shared her life and faith with so many just coming into the Church. There was no arrogance or vanity about her....she was selfless and giving and always ready to help someone in need.
My thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time.
