Cecelia Brooks

1917 - 2015 PITTSFIELD Cecelia Patricia Brooks, 97, formerly of 38 Beacon Avenue and Melbourne Place, died Monday morning, August 31, 2015 at Fairview Commons in Great Barrington where she has resided for the past three years. She was born on October 20, 1917 in London, England the only child of Emil and Ida Roehr Raabe. After coming to America at the age of 5 to New York City the family settled in Bronx, NY where she attended school. Due to her father's profession Ceil traveled extensively with her parents throughout South America. While living and working in New York she met and married her first love, William H. Cole on May 3, 1941, he served in the military during World War II and died in Anzio, Italy respectfully in 1944. She and her family then moved from New York to The Berkshires where she met and married Walter D. "Bussy" Brooks on August 30, 1946, he died July 10, 1987. She had been employed for the former Sheaffer Eaton Paper Company as an assembler for 13 years retiring at age 65, she also at onetime worked for the former Wendell Sheraton Hotel. She later in life continued to travel across country with her husband in his beloved travel trailer, her favorite being the "Gold Coast". She enjoyed all types of music and most often knew every word and would sing along. She also enjoyed dancing, swimming, walking, knitting, crocheting and needlepoint. She loved people and enjoyed just about anyone's company. Ceil was self-taught in two languages and was always eager to learn something new. She was a dedicated volunteer at Berkshire Medical Center in the mail room and also was a volunteer for the Recording for the Blind. She was a longtime member of Saint Mark's Episcopal Church in Adams, MA. While living at Melbourne Place she was the first to graduate from a computer program for seniors. She is survived by nephew, Michael and his wife, Patricia Carpenter and their two children, nephew, Michael Brooks and many other nieces and nephews. Ceil is also survived by her adopted family, Sandy and Glenn Curtiss, Tiffany and Nick Sermini-Greene and Lucca, Nate and Lisa Sermini and dear friend Jean Ryan. She was predeceased by a nephew, William Brooks. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 3, 2015 at 12Noon at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 East Main St. Dalton, MA. 01226 with the Rev. Christopher Malatesta pastor of St. Agnes Church in Dalton, MA. officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Dalton, MA. The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home Thursday morning from 11a.m. to 12Noon. Memorials in her memory may be made to Fairview Commons Activity Program in care of the funeral home.

So sorry to hear of Ceil's passing. I had the pleasure of being Ceils hairdresser for over 35 years before she moved into desisted living in Lenox. She was a wonderful lady.
