Dearest Friends,

Our most immediate thought and concern when we got the news about Grier was for Jackie.

Our next thoughts were how much we'll miss seeing Jackie and Grier together in Nantucket -- which has become a tradition for us and is always so much fun. Beautiful long lunches in late September at The White Elephant on the harbor or at The Galley down by the ocean. Lively conversation, good humor, definitely some politics thrown in, and great stories. We did not expect our lunch this past September to be the last with Grier.

The main thing we always knew and understood about Grier was of his immense pride in the family and the joy it brought. He so adored Jackie and was hugely, and rightly, proud of Nicole, Michele and Alan.

About Grier himself, it is clear that he was part of The Greatest Generation, had done his duty and had made a great life for his family -- tremendous accomplishments.

Grier was a very special man. It was an honor, a privilege and a pleasure to get to know him and to become friends.

Nicole, Kim, & Palmer: I was so sorry to hear of your loss earlier this month. I remember meeting Grier when I was young--he was so distinguished and he and his wife were so classy and beautiful. Like Grandfather, he had a major twinkle in his eyes, which I will always remember. Grier will stay with you in memories and love for years to come--

In sympathy,
Jess & Joe

Jackie and Family
I was saddened by the notice of Grier's passing. We both spent most of our working years at GE Ordnance together. I remember them fondly.
When I first arrived in Pittsfield as a bachelor living at the Castle, Grier took me under his wing. One day he asked me to accompany him to NYC to pick up a new Vespa motorscooter. I was delighted, not only because he asked me to ride with him, but because NYC was a new experience for me. He showed me a lot of stores that day that I'd never seen before. It's a day I've never forgotten.
Grier was a constant in my life at GE and a true friend.
Marion joins me in expressing our sympathy to you and your family.
