To the Utley and Birrell families,
I had the great fortunate and took tremendous pride in having Kate manage my art gallery in the early 2000s. She was the epitome of professionalism and refinement and elevated all around her.
Her shining star was dimmed far too early, especially for her wonderful family and her passing will lessen life hereafter for all.

To The Birrell and Utley families,
Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of Katie. Katie was the kindest person there was. She was a role model and admired by so many. When I think of her I think of her smile. She was one of the nicest people I knew and that was when she was a child. I cannot imagine what an amazing woman she must have become. My thoughts and prayers are with you all and especially to her two sons. My she live on inside of them.
I am very sorry for your loss. I vividly remember Katie's big smile and watching her perform on the basketball court at Williams.

There are never words enough to convey the sadness felt upon hearing of the loss of a loved one. I can relate to Becky & Stephanie without knowing them having lost a sister at a young age with her husband's and my mother's pain being heartbreaking. I know and pray the wonderful memories of Katie will live on in the forefront as treasures for her sons.

To the Birell and Utley Families,
Prayers and thoughts are sent your way during this time of mourning.
It is hard to put in words what Kate meant to her classmates, teammates, and friends. Her leadership, kindness and wisdom will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
I will treasure the years that I was fortunate to call myself Kate's coach and will be thankful for her examples to others.
Special thoughts to her and Steve's boys
While it has been many, many years since our Deerfield days, i remember, Katie and her sweet, warm smile. I lost my breath as I read about her passing while pangs of pain and sadness fill my heart. I send my deepest condolences to her family during this unimaginable period of mourning. Warmest of wishes to all. Goodbye, Katie, and thank you for being such a nice, kind person to me and everyone you knew.
On this Thanksgiving Day, I am thankful for the serendipity of choosing a house two doors away from Kate and Steve. I am thankful for all of the good times we had at parties at each other's homes, and even more so for the countless times I saw Kate on our block. Her sparkling personality could light up a room and often brightened my day. No matter what she was doing or where she was going, Kate was always cheerful and kind. It was a joy to know her, and I will never forget her beautiful smile and easy laugh. To Steve, Chase, Stephen Paul and all of Kate's family and friends: May you always remember that she has not left you completely—she will always be in your heart.
To: Stephen Utley and family, I lost my beautiful wife, wonderful mother and young grandma in 2000 at an early age. She had a beautiful smile like yours. Keep that in your mind forever to help your grieving process over the years. A man with a similar and sorrowful situation.
Steve & Polly
John Storey noticed me on your loss and my prayers are with you and your family.
On behalf of the entire Pulmonary Hypertension Association community around the country, I want to add my expression of profound sadness at the terrible news of Kate's death. Many of us know firsthand the pain of loss to this wicked disease and we pledge ourselves to finding a cure. We are so sorry for your loss.
Stephanie, Becky, Mr. & Mrs. Birrell,
My heart goes out to you all. I consider myself lucky to have known Katie in high school, especially on the basketball court. Katie was a sweetheart who fully embraced life. The energy she radiated was high-spirited, warm, captivating, welcoming, and most of all, genuine.
I had a sudden brush with death several years ago, and when I came out of my coma a month and four operations later, I was able to witness how life had come to a stop for my parents. Not that I or they can ever understand your grief. But I know that parents are parents no matter how old their children are, and the pain of losing a child does not diminish just because that child has "grown up" and left home.
I hope you can find solace in coming together as a family as well as in knowing that a community far larger than you can imagine is feeling Katie's loss and keeping you all in their prayers. Katie was unique in that each person she encountered, she moved in some way. This platitude is overused, but in Katie's case, nothing can better describe the effect she had on people. As her family, you already know that Katie will live on forever in your lives and in the lives of her two children. Yet by touching so many during her time here with us, Katie's reach across this universe is far greater, boundless and immeasurable. It is already happening… endless ripples throughout space and time… all because of Katie.
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I knew Katie growing up in wmst, she was always so kind and full of light--My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this sad time.
We are heart sick for you on the loss of Katie. We remember as a young and fun loving playmate of our daughter Sarah. Our hearts go out to you all and we wish you peace and comfort from the many memories you have of Katie to help you now and in the days to come.
Martie and Jay Gooze
I am deeply saddened to read of this news. Katie will forever be remembered by all of those that were fortunate to know her as a warm caring and thoughtful person.
My thoughts are with the Birrell Family and the Utley family.
To the Birrell and Utley families,
I worked with Kate at The Barber Gallery so long ago, but her smile and enthusiasm was immediately recalled when I learned of this sad news. Her leadership, her energy and her infectious laugh has remained with me. I am sure she touched countless lives on her journey of life, but the most important I am sure is the love that will forever be in the hearts of her boys. Peace be with you, Donna Muse
Steve, Polly, Becky, Stephanie,
I will always see her, a sprite running, running unfettered and free, with boundless joy and a smile that lit and lights the world, then and now, running free on those playing fields of Deerfield, running free, now forever.
Even if she only touched you for a second you were blessed for life.
How special for you all to have known her so.
Now as skies darken on late Fall afternoons in Western Mass she is there, a ball at her feet. And when winter sends us indoors to the squeak, squeak of basketball on a gym floor, she is there. Always there, always amiling. Katie.
Stephanie and Rebecca, Truly sorry, my prayers are with you...
Polly and Stephen...I don't know you, but I know your wonderful daughter Becky. I understand your pain and sadness, because I lost my daughter, too. We belong to a club that no one asks to join. I wish you peace.
We send our love, prayers, support, and sympathies to the Utley, Birrell, and Luedke families. Katie was taken much too soon. We know the heavens will now shine one beautiful, twinkling star brighter. It is a privilege to have had her in our lives. XOXO Andy & Amy
