I was truly saddened to learn of Jeff's passing. I had previously moved away and only recently learned of it. He was an extremely sweet and caring man. I met him just prior to Wild Sage's opening and was immediately impressed by his warmth and enthusiasm. I have several items in my home from Wild Sage, and enjoyed talking with Jeff each time I went into the store. My deepest condolences to the family...he was a special person.

I was just (August, 2014) searching for Jeff's contact information in the Colgate Alumni Directory with every intention of calling him. I put it off too long. When I saw the inscription "Deceased," across Jeff's entry in the directory I was shocked and didn't believe it. It had to be a mistake. I wondered how to contact his sisters that I knew so well and couldn't figure a way to do it. I finally Googled and found this obituary. What a note of finality! I grew up with Jeff in Cazenovia. We were in Explorers together and were fraternity brothers at Colgate. Summers we took road trips to Lake George and Cape Cod in his father's MGA. Jeff rode second seat on my Honda 50 motor scooter. I was his best man at his first (I think) wedding. The "I think" tells you that we had fallen out of touch. Yet I always thought that I would see him one more time again. Let this be a lesson to all. You can imagine the sadness; I can't begin to think how his father and brothers and sisters feel: you have my heartfelt condolences.

My condolences to you all. I knew Jeff through Wild Sage. Although I enjoyed browsing the entire store, mostly I shopped there for books and he'd often ask how many I was currently reading as I often read 3 at a time. Such a loss for you and for Pittsfield! Be comforted by God's peace.

Jeff was one of the first people I met 12 years ago when I bought a house in Pittsfield - I went to a Tag Sale he was running and spent $30 for a few pieces of furniture. He offered to deliver it for free since I lived 1/4 mile away, and he ultimately brought me two truckloads of furniture and another truckload of bushes. That was the best $30 deal ever. I frequented Wild Sage over the years, and he sold some of my artwork at his store a few years ago. He was always smiling and encouraging everyone to be constructive and creative and optimistic. He will be missed.

Jeff,
May you find that treasure in the sky...
