Dearest Stackhouse Family, please accept my deepest sympathies for the loss of Max. I remember his warm smile and kind wise words about any and every subject. Some of my best summer memories was growing up and attending the Theology and the Arts festivals at your home, all the amazing discussions in your living room which uplifted and brought music and theology together. They were some of the most spiritual and inspiring sessions while I was at Tanglewood and will treasure them always. Thank you for these wonderful memories, they will continue to live on. Sending you all our love and deepest sympathy.

It was with great sadness that I learned of Max's passing on. He was a great classmate at DePauw, and I highly valued being on a panel with him at our 50th class reunion. He leaves a void that may be impossible to fill. Jean and family, I am sorry for your loss, but the memory of his accomplishments and exemplary life ease the pain.

Valerie and I give our condolences to Jean. I got to know Max mostly through tennis. We had wonderful matches and enjoyed running each other around. Afterwards we would discuss the Bible and its meanings to each of us. I will sorely miss Max.

Dear Mrs. Stackhouse and family,
I grieve with you the loss of Dr. Stackhouse. At Princeton I took a class he taught entitled, Ethical Implications of the Synoptic Gospels. I appreciated his evident love of God, his razor sharp mind, hearty sense of humor, broad smile, and his kindness. He was especially good at integrating theory and practice. I am grateful and enriched for his tutelage.
