My dearest friend, you know how the last year has been. I love you T. You knew it then and you surely know it now. I will NEVER forget the time you took, the details you would put into projects, the time you shared, the stories you would tell.....over and over. You know how we feel. You are missed beyond measure. Absolutely beyond measure. I don't know how to let go.

I just learned about Todd's death, and I wanted to express my condolences to Todd's family and friends. I didn't know Todd well--but I'd like to tell the small story of how we met and how he helped me.

I was cutting down brush and putting it into a big pile one day near the road, and all during that day, a guy was driving a truck back and forth from the farm across the road. After he passed a couple of times, we smiled and waved to each other with each pass. Then, on one of his passes, the driver abruptly stopped his truck and hopped out. He was a big guy, and he was wearing mirrored sunglasses, and something about him and the way he jumped out of that truck made me think of the movies: if Sean Penn put on some more muscle, he could pull it off. The man asked me, looking at the brush pile, "You got somewhere to put that?" And I smiled and introduced myself. We shook hands, and he told me his name was Todd Shaw.

That day, he took away that pile--as well as a big one I had going in the back of the property. He charged me a very fair price, and it was fun for my daughter and wife to see him take it all away, load by load, dumping it from a front loader into the big truck. And we did it all again a few months later.

When I stopped by looking for him this past weekend, hoping to get him to take care of some new brush piles, I was very sad to learn that he's gone. There was just something about him that I liked. It doesn't surprise me to see that he had a lot of people who cared about him.

Rest in peace, Todd.

So sad to hear Todd is gone. I'll always remember him riding on his tractor around the farm and nearby roads, with a smile on his face and a friendly wave for everyone. My thoughts are with all his family.
