I was introduced to Claire Elliott through a letter written to her by her cousin, Lucy Lee, who lived down the street from me in the small town of Louisville which is 10 miles south of Clayton Alabama where Claire grew up. Claire invited me to Birmingham so we could meet. Claire invited me to live in her home while I continued my post graduate education. Dr. Claire, as I fondly called her, cared enough to be tough on me which inspired me to stay the course and get the most from my education. Her inspiration came from stories she shared with me about her perseverance and hard work while she
continued her education. I saw how much she loved her family and how passionate she was about her work. She loved life and had so may great qualities. I found out later that I was just one of many that were invited to live in her home while they continued their education. She and Dr. Howard had a special place in
their hearts for young people. I will be
forever grateful to Dr. Claire who had such an impact on my life. She was a great lady who taught me so much. I will never forget her.

To the family: I am so sorry for your loss. Cherish her memory and never forget how much she loved each of you.
May you find peace and comfort in the coming days and weeks that only God can give through His love for each of you.
I will be praying for you.

Oh Claire, just seeing your face in this picture makes me smile. We shared stories, and had many interesting conversations. Sometimes serious, somettimes just silliness .Our relationship was special to me. You weren't my mom, but you were more than a friend that is hard for me to describe. Thank you for all you taught me.
In my eyes you were raised in a time that gave us the greatest generation. Fortitude, determination and sometimes flat out hard headedness were all part of the you I so admired. Yet you had a child like quality of fun, and giggles and a sharp wit about you. You had perseverance, intelligence and accomplished and overcame much. I respect your feisty sassiness wrapped in Southern charm and class. You were a wonderful combination of many traits. And oh my, that accent! I'll miss hearing that voice.

I love you Claire Elliott and am so grateful to have known you.. You hold a special place in my heart.

And to your family...I am so sorry for your tremendous loss. It's so hard to lose a parent and grandparent, especially one like yours. May God grant the transition for you to be easy. May your memories keep her living in your hearts. And may you have peace, the peace only He can give.
God, please love on them in a special way.
