Jim Pittman exemplified the very best of academic medicine. His zeal for scientific discovery, constant quest for excellence and abiding affection for students were instrumental in attracting outstanding faculty and leaders to UAB and developing a world class academic medical center in Birmingham. He will be missed.

Dr Pittman was an inspiration to every medical student that graduated under his tenure and countless residents, especially me. But I didn't appreciate his full stature until I counted him as a friend in the years after graduation. I will miss him.

Dear Clinton, John, Adam, and Sam,
It is with great sadness that we read of your father and grandfather's passing. He was not only kind and friendly, but also one of great intellect. Your mother and grandmother was also pretty special as well.
We share your great loss and know that all of you will continue to carry
on their legacy.
Fondly and with love,
Marilyn and Lenny Leonard (Browdy's)
