Joe Roberts Obituary

Joe Wayne "Tubby" Roberts, age 83, of Springville passed away on Friday, July 7, 2017. Joe graduated from Albertville High School in 1952 and went on to play football for the University of Georgia and Jacksonville State University, where he served as co-captain in his senior year. He was a coach and teacher at Springville High School from 1959 to 1963 and retired from Southern Ready Mix with many years of service. Joe was an All-State football player and was inducted into the Marshall County Sports Hall of Fame in 2011. Joe loved to golf, raised horses and cattle, a member of The Saddle Club and was an active member of St. Clair Springs Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Katie "Snooks" Roberts; brother, Charles Roberts and his sisters, Phyllis Grau and Fredia Rhodes. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Martha Terry Roberts; brother, Jack Roberts (Martha Thompson Roberts) and several nieces, nephews and extended family. Funeral service will be on Monday, July 10, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Deerfoot Memorial Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 10, 2017 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Interment will be at Springville City Cemetery. Deerfoot Memorial Funeral Home – directing.
