To Stephanie and his family, I have known John since my freshman year in college through his cousin Carlos who lived up the street and was a friend of my brother Todd Bauer. John was a good friend and kept up with me all of these years. I lost my husband the day before and I am devastated. He is someone who would never miss birthdays no matter what. I t just occurred to me I hadn't heard from this this past December so I called to check on him to find his number disconnected and it hit me what might have happened. I am so sorry for your loss. I know he loved you very much and I had heard of his plans going forward.

John will be missed by all those who knew him and whose lives he touched. I am so glad I got to spend more time with him over the past 3 weeks. He was a good friend to me in every respect and I miss him already.

I've worked with John at BBVA Compass for 6 years now. Last year he sent me this email about an orchid with my namesake. Today I was particularly drawn to his comment about the little voices. I hope you find peace in knowing that John is now home...

So early this morning I find myself at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, in the orchid greenhouse. As I water them, I sometimes hear these little voices crying out 'take me home, take me home'. Today was no exception.

When I looked down to find the source, I found a species named Bulbophyllum (since we are in the south, I like to call them 'Bubba-phyllum') genus is curtisii. Orchid species are named with a lower case first letter, and the 'ii' ending is the latinezed version of the name. Apparently someone named Curtis discovered it about 150 years ago.

Bulbophyllums are very easy to propagate, so of course, I left with a cutting. Further research reveals that it goes by a couple of other names, but the bloom is quite pretty.
