We met Monty in Great Falls, VA 25 years ago. He and Anne have continued to be dear friends. His enthusiasm for life was contagious and we will miss him. It has been a privilege to know him and to have shared many memorable moments with him. Anne and his family are in our thoughts and prayers. Fran and Bernie Hirl

Anne and Family,

It is a horrible habit that many of us (at this age) have adopted, but it hit me like a ton of bricks to see Monty's Obituary posted. We all think that we are immortal and that was one of my great remembrances of Monty. He was the classic example of the joke "I don't fear dying, I just don't want to be there when it happens. Monty was a year or two younger but someone that I considered a friend many years ago. He was just a funny guy. The picture in the obituary is typical of my remembrance of him. Not afraid of life and willing to be there. How is it that as you grow older and your sphere of connections grows that only a limited amount of those remain in your memory. I knew Monty to be a smiling, straight forward guy and honest guy when we were young and apparently those traits remained with him. If the loss that I feel after so very many years is a portion of what you feel, I can only pray that you will remember the smiles, smirks and funny things that he brought into all of our lives.

May he rest in God's arms and Peace and at least try to save a little bit of Irish whiskey for the rest of us when we get up there.

Dear Louise, Sarah Saunders Hodge posted this on Facebook today. I'm so sorry to hear of Monty's passing! I'll be praying for you family as y'all grieve his loss. God bless you all, and may God's presence be especially real to each of you at this sad time. Love, Polly Hall Culp
