Dear Leila, Akira, and Lili,
This is Jay Wilson.

Bob was talented and intelligent.

When you visited Shige and me on Maui, a side trip one summer vacation to see Leila's parents on Molokai, Bob showed photos of several buildings he'd designed. Library, office building, and greenhouse were very nice but most inspiring was one of Bob's projects at Auburn, a visionary, urban sprawl reducing concept of infilling southern, tree lined, boulevards of antebellum style homes with smaller, upscale residences built between them. Red columns, open plan: in Bob's hands architecture was abstract art.

I read Tolkien. Bob read Fitzgerald and Hesse.

It seems that in Bob, Leila found a generous man who could be as devoted a father to their children as her father was to his.

Bob was very encouraging of Akira's sketchbook. Akira was designing airports...ran out of room at the bottom of one page but picked up the design on the next.

In the floor wrestling department, Lili gave as good as she got.

This has been a hard year for all of you, especially Leila. When grief comes, I remind myself that I will not always feel as I do now, and I may never be as happy as I was before, but I will be happy again.

Aloha,
Jay Wilson.
Bob was one of my roommates at Auburn.
Bob's obituary, Leila's father's obituary, and Guestbook page were forwarded to me by our mutual friend, and fellow Auburn architecture classmate, Jerry Hobgood, Marion, MS.

Dear Leila, this news hit us hard. Words cannot express our sadness. We are so very sorry for your loss. Bob was a wonderful man and we feel honored and very happy that we had the chance to meet all of the Watson brothers in our life. Please accept our sincerest condolences. Our thoughts are with you, Akira and Lilly in this difficult time. We keep you in our prayers. Be strong and feel embraced.
