Mei–Ching Seeds, 81, of Birmingham, AL passed away on Friday morning, November 17, 2017. She lived a long, beautiful, happy life, having touched so many lives through so many different ways in so many different countries. Mrs. Seeds was born in Taiwan and met the love of her life Joe there. They were married when she was 23, and they were 50 years together until his death in January 2010. Mrs. Seeds moved from her native country in late 1961 to establish a household in the USA, but she never lost touch of her native home and her family there. She was always flying between the two countries. With her love and knowledge of Taiwan, she started her own business, the Oriental Gift Shop, in Birmingham and introduced people to the beauty of the Asian culture. She never met a stranger, and no one ever left her house hungry. She will be dearly missed by her family and all the people she touched and knew. In addition to her husband Joe, Mrs. Seeds was predeceased by her parents, Kao Jin Chong and Kao An An; two sons, Kao Jin Yi and Joseph R. Seeds, III; and son-in-law, Richard Allen "Rick" Autry. Survivors include Mrs. Seeds' daughter, Mary Ella Seeds Autry of Hoover, AL; son, Michael F. Seeds (Tawna) of Trussville, AL; six grandchildren, Kao Jung Bin, Kao Hsiao Ni, Kao Hsiao Chin, Aspen K. Seeds, Kao Jung Jie, and Kao Jung Wei; two great-grandchildren, Chang Yu N and Hu Yun Chen; three sisters, Chen Kao Jui, Kao Yu Hsia, and Kao Hsiu Chih, all of Taiwan; and one brother, Kao Jung Erh of Taiwan. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL, followed by A Celebration of Mei-Ching Seeds' Life and Legacy at 1 p.m. at the funeral home's chapel, Pelham. Burial will be at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham.

Mary was a good friend. We have fond memories of times spent with Joe and Mary. Joe and I worked together in Tokyo, Japan 50 years ago, and we were neighbors at that time. We have kept in touch with them over the years. We were very sorry when Joe passed. We miss him and we will miss Mary. May God Bless them both. Dennis and Linda Johnson and son's Dan, Ted and Allen Johnson.
