PEARCE, THOMAS MCCALLUM was born on December 27, 1930 and died December 19, 2013. Tom was born to the late Clarence and Mary Pearce in Cleveland, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his sister Molly Pearce Robinson. He is survived by his wife of 38 years Anne Lanier Pearce and his children Mary Clayton Enderlein (Christoph) of Seattle Washington, Molly Pearce Clark (Lange) of Birmingham and Thomas McCallum Pearce, Jr. (Laura) of Atlanta, Georgia as well as his two stepchildren James Arthur Smith, IV (Ashley) of Birmingham and Brett Rutledge Smith (Elizabeth) of Chapel Hill, NC. Tom is also survived by his eight grandchildren: Kyle T. Palmer, Colin B. Enderlein, Erik C. Enderlein, Anna Kathryn Clark, Virginia Clayton Clark, Adrienne L. Clark, Anderson M. Pearce and Thomas M. Pearce, III, in addition to his six grandchildren George W. Smith, Arthur W Smith, Laney F. Smith, Anne Carter Smith, Lucy L. Smith and Brett R. Smith, Jr. Tom graduated high school from the University School in Cleveland and received a BS in Geology from Yale University in 1953. At Yale, he was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity and played on the football team where he lettered as a freshman. At Yale, Tom was active in the NROTC and upon graduation joined the Navy as a Lieutenant where he served as an all-weather pilot. He was assigned carrier duty aboard the USS Bennington as well as the USS Lexington. Tom subsequently received an MBA from the University of Michigan in 1957 and upon graduation he moved to Birmingham and was the co-founder and President of Alabaster Industries which he ran for nearly 30 years. Tom was an avid sportsman who enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing with his friends and family. He was member of Independent Presbyterian Church the Mountain Brook Club, and he was a proud member of Matthews Marauders as well as the Beaux Arts Krewe. If so desired, the family suggests that memorials be made to Independent Presbyterian Church, 3100 Highland Ave., Birmingham, AL 35205, Greater Birmingham Humane Society, 300 Snow Drive, Birmingham, AL 35209. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm, Saturday, December 21st, at Independent Presbyterian Church. Family visitation following the service in the church parlor.
