David has been a friend since I moved to Hendersonville. He was an oak of a man. His work on environmental issues has and will continue to affect positively the quality of the lives of Henderson County residents for years to come. Without Eco, which he helped to start, many issues of import to the sustainability of our city like recycling and recognizing and preserving heritage trees may never have been brought to the fore. We will miss him.

Tree lived on our farm for several years and was a quick friend when we arrived from Arizona 22 years ago. On his 50th birthday, I brought him a beautiful bloomed tulip that proceeded to wilt and fall as we celebrated through lunch. He just laughed and went on to enchant our lives for a good many years. His son, Josh, was married on our farm and we still dearly love the antique Bronco vehicle we bought from Tree. We still have a recording of him being Santa Claus over the phone on Xmas eve for our small children at the time Ho Ho Ho-ing as he flew over Mt. Mitchell and keeping the myth alive. He was very convincing! After not connecting for a number of years, He accidentally called me last month and I convinced him to come see my husband's play. I am so glad I got to hug his neck one more time. Libba Tracy

The footprints David left in Henderson County are good ones. Whenever I visit Jackson Park and walk the trails I'll think of David and his work in making this community more connected with the natural world. Vaya Con Dios my friend!
