OMG, I just learned of this and am heartbroken. Ed had a vision for my English gardens at my Rockhouse in Saluda many years ago. They are still thriving and it is as lush as he promised it would be. I am deeply saddened and send sincerest condolences.

I remember being part of your wedding party. Sandy was so happy that day. You made her life worth living. You made many beautiful memories together. She and your children, family and friends will miss you dearly. Knowing you are in a better place is the only reason life here on earth is bearable by those you left behind. May you rest in peace.

Fondly,
Janet Mehalick

I was truly shocked and saddened to hear of Ed's passing. Ed was a true friend. He and his family welcomed us with open arms when we immigrated to the United States in 1970. The Lastein family made us feel at home in this great country. Even though we moved west shortly after moving to the U.S., Ed and I kept in touch with the occasional Christmas Card. Even with the limited contact I knew I had a friend for life. I had the pleasure to see him about 3 years ago when I was in North Carolina. It was at least 30 years since I had seen him. Just as before he and Sandy welcomed me with open arms.
I will miss him.
